June 2026 Inspiration Challenge

Each month, a member of the Altenew Design Team (or guest designer) selects a photo that they have taken and then uses that as inspiration for a project. We want to share the fun, of course, and so we invite YOU to use your own creativity to make a project inspired by this month's photo. This month's host is Ania Yenerall. 

I’m so excited to be the host for the June 2026 Inspiration Challenge! The moment I saw this beautiful garden scene filled with soft purple blooms, vibrant greenery, and pops of warm coral, I knew it would make the perfect inspiration for this month’s challenge. I was especially drawn to the striking contrast between the cool florals and the fresh, lively colors throughout the photo. The combination feels both peaceful and vibrant at the same time, and I couldn’t wait to translate those colors into a card design.

For my project, I created a vibrant floral card using the Craft-A-Flower: Hibiscus Layering Die Set. I wanted to capture the soft purple tones from the flowers in the inspiration photo while also incorporating the fresh greens and warm coral accents scattered throughout the garden scene.

To create the florals, I began ink blending the centers of the hibiscus flowers with Coral Berry to bring in the warm coral and red tones seen throughout the garden. I then blended Wisteria across the petals for the soft purple coloring and deepened the edges with Ultraviolet for added contrast and dimension. For the leaves, I used Reindeer Moss to reflect the rich greenery from the inspiration photo and to help balance the bold floral colors beautifully.

After assembling the florals, I began working on the background to add a soft touch of texture and interest while still allowing the vibrant flowers to remain the focal point. I ink smooshed Wisteria ink onto my glass mat, added a few drops of water, and used a round paintbrush to splatter delicate light purple speckles across a clean white card panel. The subtle splatter adds just the right amount of softness and helps tie the background into the floral color palette beautifully. Once the panel was completely dry, I arranged the florals onto the card front to create a bold, eye-catching composition. To finish the design, I added a sentiment from the Elegant Sayings Stamp Set, die cut with the coordinating die for a clean and polished finishing touch.

I love how this card captures both the softness and vibrancy of this month’s inspiration photo, and I hope it encourages you to play with color and create something beautiful of your own. I can’t wait to see what you create for the June challenge!
